Second National Bank Building, Boston, Massachusettsby Wendy Darling
No sooner had I snapped shots of the United Shoe Machinery Corp. Building, New England Telephone and a couple other great buildings when I spotted this one shining a block or two away. This is the first of a bunch of photos, including snaps of all the bronze panels.
About the Building
Built in 1929, this stately building is located at 75 Federal Street and sports a ziggurat top and some magnificent bronzework. See more photos on the Boston Art Deco Society’s web site, which has this to say about it:

This 21-story, 19x10x12 bay office skyscraper with ziggurat massing is one of Boston’s finest Art Deco buildings. Note the dramatically stepped-back roof life banded with florally inspired designs and gilded hipped roof penthouse. Bronze relief panels by New York sculptor Paul Fjelde surround the building, depicting Agriculture, Mining, Manufacturing, Power, Finance and Transportation scenes. The central entry features fluted pilasters and heroic figures in bas relief. The fine period lobby features other bronze panels, dazzling ‘skyscraper’ form elevator doors, and numerous luxurious details.
